THE PETITION We, the undersigned,
1. demand that the Council of Ministers commences formal pre-accession negotiations with the Ukrainian Government for Ukraine's membership of the European Union, without further delay;
2. assert Ukraine’s eligibility to join the European Union by virtue of her geographical position in the heart of Europe;
3. salute the exemplary personal courage and dignity of President Yushchenko and thousands of other Ukrainian citizens who risked their lives in a peaceful revolution to defend and establish constitutional democracy in Ukraine;
4. deplore the outrageous, indefensible triple standard in which European Union membership is being granted to Turkey, negotiated with the Western Balkan States and refused to Ukraine;
5. call on the European Union to assist and invest in the democratic and civil development of Ukraine, because this is crucial in
(a) turning the tide of history against the menace of oligarchic, criminal regimes in the former Soviet Union, and
(b) building the future stability and security of Europe and the wider world.
